Remember Your Differences

from Clipart.com

Everywhere people talk about how different men and women are. Yet, in marriages most spouses quickly forget that men and women really are different. They view things differently. They often react to things differently. Their memories may be drastically different in how things are remembered and how much is remembered. Memories are made up of perceptions.

We’ve said it on this blog that men and women are different. For example, men usually like a few minutes quiet time alone to unwind at the end of a day (but the TV may be turned on); women usually like to converse with another human being to unwind at the end of a day. We’ve talked about this. Yet, how many of us often forget these two diametrically opposite styles exist in the same marriage? Because we are made so differently we have to occasionally remind ourselves of these differences in order not to fall back into old patterns of expecting spouses to be just like us.

You have to remember the differences, relish the diversity, and enjoy the cohesiveness that love bonds between two wildly different beings.

What do you think? How do you learn to accept the differences in your mate? How do you remind yourself that men and women do think differently?
