Marriages Come in All Shapes

No two marriages are alike. Though people can learn by observing other couple’s interaction, it won’t work to try to create a duplicate copy of someone else’s marriage.

Probably most people and couples today try to be all to everything (think how super moms are described), yet each will still  have a priority focus whether they realize it or not. It may be towards excelling in careers or attaining the house and picket fence in a style of choosing. The priority might be on making a house into a home no matter what it’s like or maybe a focus on having a completely green life with learning to be totally self-sufficient.

There is no right answer for what should be a couple’s focus because all people are different.

However, in the book The Exceptional Seven Percent, The Nine Secrets of The World’s Happiest Couples by Gregory K. Popcak, MSW he states that, “Exceptional couples, . . . while concerned with all of these to some degree, spend most of their energy working together to pursue the development of positive character traits, moral virtue, and spiritual growth. . . Exceptional couples consider their marriage to be their best hope for becoming the people they want to be at the end of their lives.”

It appears an important element in some of the happiest marriages is for couples to grow together as a team united in their goals not only together but for each other.

What do you think? How do you create a focus in your marriage to bring out the best traits in everyone and as a couple?
