The Day of Valentine’s Day

Tip 290

An Important Day to Remember

If you celebrate Valentine’s Day, then all your plans are made by now, and it’s almost time for another year to pass.

If you are one who thinks the day is too hyped, too commercial, too overdone with sweet sentimentality, then that’s your choice to think as such.

Whether you believe in what the day stands for or not, make it a day to remember as one you decide to start putting more fun in your marriage. Fun is an attitude that costs nothing. If you put a priority on having fun with your sweetheart, many others things in the marriage will take care of themselves.

Decide how you can be more available for emotional support for your mate. Accept that things don’t always go right. Get rid of whining, complaining and negativity. Make a commitment to do some fun/silly, no-cost stuff several times a month. Your relationship will be better. And, if you have children, you’ll probably be better parents, too.

The year I met Art Linkletter, it was 2006. He was over 90 years old but had just co-authored a book that year with Mark Victor Hansen. The book’s title is How to Make the Rest of Your Life the Best of Your Life. If Mr. Linkletter can feel that way through all his tragedies in life and now being in his ’90’s, is there any excuse for the rest of us to whine and lament about life and relationships?*

From this day forward make a commitment to have fun and enjoy your relationships.

What do you think? How important do you think having fun in marriage is to the relationship? What ways can you suggest for having fun without a lot of cost? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comment section.
