Elegant Dining for Valentine’s Day

Dining for Two

It doesn’t actually have to be elegant, but it does need to look fun, romantic, or really festive.

from Clipart.com

Valentine’s Day is actually one of the worst days of the year to be dining out. It feels like every couple in the world thinks dining out on Valentine’s Day is the way one way to celebrate. Restaurants can be crowded; staff can be harried. It may not be the atmosphere you are seeking because everyone is seeking the same atmosphere on the same evening of the year.

Think about dining in, instead.

In a room not designed for dining (maybe a bedroom or living room) set up a card/craft table, end table or anything that will make into a table.

Put a cloth over it—any kind of nice cloth. A piece of fabric that you like, an old curtain, anything—just as long as you think it looks nice. You don’t have to spend money to make the area look festive.

Decorate the room to look inviting. Bring in flower arrangements from another room, candles from another room, cut pieces of fabric for added color or to cover up something you don’t want seen. Let your imagination be as creative as possible. If you have clear votive holders, you can glue red hearts or red designs to the outsides of the votives.

One thing you might want to purchase are the glow-in-the-dark stars for the ceiling. They’ll only be noticed once the lights are out.

If you want a meal from a restaurant, order it to be picked up. If they have delivery, talk to your neighbor about having it delivered there to keep it a surprise from your mate.

It can be a lot more romantic and fun to dine in than to dine out on Valentine’s Day. Think about it as an alternative for this year.
