Are You a Loser?

Tip 215

Then Switch the Game

Play games for the sake of winning and losing–once in a while. Here, the adage “it’s not about the winning” has no place.

Decide before playing a game what the winning prize and the losing “prize” is.

from Clipart.com

Find games you can have fun playing but don’t take long to play—a fast board game, a quick Wii competition, a race on a video game, maybe a flip of a coin.

Make the stakes high for winning and losing, such as:

– winner in charge of the meal, loser cleans the kitchen (or vice versa)

– winner decides what to do for the rest of the evening, loser has to lose graciously

– winner takes over the remote (with choice of TV shows) for a whole weekend, loser can’t complain

– winner wins a whole afternoon or evening for personal use, loser tends to all personal wants of winner

The games we play for high stakes are quick. I will admit though if one of us gets too good and wins time after time, the loser has always insisted we switch to a different game. So, I guess that’s fair.
