A Day of Thankfulness

Tip 209

We All Have Much for Which to Be Thankful

from Clipart.com

This is a wonderful holiday for the United States because it’s simply meant to be a day celebrated in thankfulness. However, like everything else in life, we do get busy and go without remembering to be thankful for all the blessings we have.

Blessings aren’t just the good things we see. How many people have you heard who have said something awful happened but in looking back, they could see the blessing in it.

I read or heard somewhere recently that the opposite of gratitude is arrogance and entitlement. (I’m sorry if I’ve used that phrase without giving accreditation for it because I don’t remember if I heard the phrase or read it.)

It’s easy to say, “Oh I’m never arrogant or act entitled like the people I see in the news today.” Really?

It’s important to not take our spouses for granted and not be arrogant and treat our marriage partners as children.

Take time today or sometime this week to think about or even make a list of things you are thankful for in your marriage partner. Better yet, post this as a list on the refrigerator and keep adding to it throughout the rest of this calendar year. Most of the time we don’t verbalize the things we are thankful for in our mates. They need to hear it or read how you feel. Living a life with gratitude guarantees a life with more joy and happiness.

Making a list like this also helps you focus on the important things in your relationship.
