Toasting Marshmallows

If gadgets like gas fire pits are allowed in your area, don’t forget to actually use them on those first cool evenings of the year. Almost sounds ridiculous to say, but a couple of years we did forget. Ours looks like an old, iron, pot-bellied stove. It’s super heavy, and we don’t store it in the location that we actually use it once cool evenings arrive.

Out-of-sight-out-of-mind can set in even to us who look forward each year to using things like this. The window of opportunity doesn’t last too long to want to be outside in the evenings because it gets too cold.

It’s important no matter what fun things you like to do, to make conscious decisions to do them with days or dates planned. In marriage it’s very easy to let the “oh, we’ll do it tomorrow/next week” syndrome take over.

If you enjoy the warmth of being huddled around something like these devices, go all out and do something offbeat, like toast marshmallows or make S’mores like you did when you were a kid. Or roast hot dogs on skewers.

It’s easy to get so caught up in daily must-do activities that one day goes past and then another. Before you know it, it gets too cold for your chimenea or fire pit to really feel good.

Seize the time to take advantage of things when you can.

What things do you do to celebrate the cold weather instead of just hibernating inside?
