If You Loved Me. . . .

Tip 180

Never Say That

from Clipart.com

Those words mean that the love between you is conditional.

It implies that you can only love each other if certain stipulations are met.

It implies mind reading of one spouse of the other.

If you ever use those words, they must be said in a complete joking manner in a situation that your spouse knows you are joking.  Even then, you could misjudge your spouse’s mood and your spouse will take you seriously.

So, it’s best to stay completely away from anything that begins with “If you really loved me. . . . .”

What are other ways that you could say what you mean without making it sound like love is depending on certain qualifications?
