Table Settings 101

Tip # 33

Create the Look of Fine Dining

Everyday! Yes, make your dining table setting look like you are preparing for company—but in a simple way. No need to bring out the crystal and china or silver unless you just want to. For everyday use those aren’t too practical because it all requires special handling when cleaning.

Use plastic plates and plastic glasses, if that’s what you choose. But those should still be set in proper style with eating utensils and napkin and drink ware set correctly. If you don’t have the vaguest idea how to set a table properly, check out some sites on the web.  Actually, I learned how to set a table when I was in the 4th grade by looking at my older sister’s Girl Scout manual. I’ve been setting the table properly ever since–and that was way back in the last millennium.

If you have serving dishes on the table, try to have them coordinate or at least look nice with what you have. There’s no reason that meal time should look like the food was set out to gobble up. It takes about a minute and a half or less to set a nice table with place mats and coordinating dishes. If you choose, place mats can be the vinyl kind that wipe off easily. Napkins don’t have to be cloth.

The point is to make meal time look as if you and your marriage partner are special company for each other–you are!
