Worship Together

Tip # 22

“The Family that Prays Together Stays Together”

from Clipart.com

Religion can be a very difficult part of a marriage. Each of you may be from diametrically different faith backgrounds. It might be as “simple” as being from different denominational backgrounds. However, even denominational backgrounds can be hard because some denominations believe if you don’t go to that particular denomination, then you are doomed to eternal damnation.

I did leave this type church a few years after getting married, and believe me, I worried about my salvation for quite a while. I kept thinking, “I do not believe this church is right, but what if they are?” I no longer have that worry.

It’s best to work out religious differences before marriage, but sometimes that doesn’t happen.

When a married couple can worship together and pray together and believe in the same faith, there’s a naturally strong bond that unites the two.

The best advice I can give is to do four things:

  • don’t stay in a particular faith simply because that’s what you were taught as a child
  • pray to seek the ultimate truth
  • if you already have an establish faith, examine each thing it teaches to see if this really comes from the truth or just man-made concerns
  • research religion for yourself with an open mind that what you’ve been told by people may not be correct.

When you honestly seek the truth and open your heart to the truth, you’ll find it. Your relationship will also be greater when you can find it together—even if not exactly at the same time.
