 Tip # 19

Don’t Chew Someone’s Ear Off *

Some people could not be guilty of this if their life depended on it. Me? I could talk about anything, everything, and unknown things between even if I was the last person on earth. I’m just a talker.

In fact, my husband once said to me about our second year of marriage, “You utter every word that enters your head.” I knew he was joking, but it did make me begin to notice whether I was just rambling on and on. I also research a lot of information so I never run out of things to share. I never thought so much about meaningful conversations; there was little exchange and no silence because I constantly babbled.  I think I might have even asked questions but then continued to talk without waiting for answers.

Thankfully, I finally began to learn more about the art of back and forth conversation instead of just jabbering incessantly.

You and your marriage partner have a long life together. Little things can become big irritations. Look for that balance between chattering all the time and not sharing your thoughts at all.

*I’m assuming that everyone knows that to chew someone’s ear off is slang for talking too much.
