Leave Little Notes

May7

Notes Don’t Have to Be Poetic

There’s something special about finding in unexpected places a personalized note from your spouse. Immediately, you think about the few seconds or minutes it took the person to plan what to write, about where to leave the note, and about how you’d feel when you found it. When you leave little notes, they don’t have to be poetic–just chisel something onto the paper.

Places to hide notes can be anywhere: taped to the steering wheel of your spouse’s car, in a lunch bag, a sticky note on the bed pillow, in the tool box in the garage, the bathroom mirror, in a golf or gym bag, your spouse’s wallet, in luggage if the person is going on a trip.

The possibilities are limitless. The one caveat is to not embarrass your spouse by leaving a note where someone else might find it, see it, or question it (your kids, your spouse’s boss, etc.).

If you never do unexpected things like this and think your spouse is going to wonder, “What’s up with this,” then start out with a note that’s simple and innocuous. A sticky note on the refrigerator that says, “Thanks for taking out the garbage” shows you are thinking of the other person.

If you start out little like this, then you can progress to more sentimental notes without feeling odd about doing it.
