Change the Things You Can

Tip # 6

Some Things You’ll Never Agree On

Some things just aren’t worth fussing about. I will admit that it can take a while after marriage to realize that there are things in life that couples will never agree on. For things that can be changed, then change them. It eliminates fussing, fuming, and criticizing.  Buy two kinds of peanut butter–smooth for her, extra crunchy for him; non-baking soda toothpaste for her, baking soda for him; whole grain bread for her, soft white whole grain for him.

One area of major concern that’s very difficult to come to an agreement on–the toilet seat. It would be a luxury to have His and Hers bathrooms, but most of us don’t have that luxury. So, you’ve got to come up with a solution to this huge problem: Leave it up, no, put it down. Why? I want it up. Well, I don’t want to touch it to put it down every time I use it. Well, that’s your fault; I have to raise it every time I want to use it. Yes, separate bathrooms sure would be nice.

We installed something that may not be 100% perfect, but it sure helps: a slow closing toilet seat. For those that leave it up, all you have to do is barely touch the tip of your finger to the lid, and it slowly closes itself. No banging. No slamming. No grasping the edges with your fingers until it’s closed. There’s a huge variety to choose from, some cheap, some expensive, colors of your choice, no limitations in what you want.

Isn’t it worth making this one small change to save needless irritation? Don’t let something like this ruin your day!

Save your discussions for more important things like extra soft? No, extra strong. Fluffy with lotion! No, more sheets per roll. . . .

Yes, focus on the important things in life in order to have more fun.
